Superintendent Alan Cron is pleased to announce that Assistant Principal Cheryl Schipper has been chosen to be the new Principal of Rockland’s John W. Rogers Middle School.
Assistant Principal Schipper will take over for Principal Beth Bohn, who is retiring on July 1.
Assistant Principal Schipper taught chemistry and physics in Springfield and Lynn before joining the Rockland Public Schools in 1998. From 1998 to 2010 she was a physics and chemistry teacher at Rockland High School and from 2005-2010 she was also a Dean of Students.
She moved to Rogers Middle School as assistant principal in 2010.
“Rogers Middle School is such a special place. It is a positive learning environment where students and staff work hard and support one another every day,” Assistant Principal Schipper said. “The students are kind and resilient. The Rockland Bulldog community is strong and proud, and we are very fortunate to have their support. Together, we strive to give our students every opportunity to succeed.”
She said her role as assistant principal has given her the opportunity to work with many different students and families within the community, and she has always enjoyed helping students navigate the academic and social challenges that middle school presents.
She said she was especially proud of the work the middle school -- and the district as a whole -- has done during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The pandemic provided us with a tremendous challenge, but it was also a tremendous opportunity. While reconfiguring our entire model was difficult, it has enabled us to examine the effectiveness of the systems and procedures we had in place,” she said. “As I transition into my new role as principal, I will lead the dedicated and passionate staff in a process of self-reflection and collaboration to create an enhanced model and a culture of continual improvement. Together we will plan a return to a more normal school year and we will be stronger and better than ever.”
Assistant Principal Schipper attended UMass Lowell, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics. She later earned a Master of Education degree from St. Joseph’s College and a Master of Education in Organizational Management from Endicott College.
“We are thrilled to welcome Cheryl to her new role as Principal, and look forward to seeing her bring new and exciting ideas to the Rogers Middle School community,” Superintendent Cron said. “We also thank Principal Bohn for her years of passion and dedicated service, and wish her well in her retirement.”
