Dear RPS Families,
The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has updated their guidelines as of May 18, 2021, for mask wearing during recess and outdoor activities. Please see the latest guidelines below regarding recess and outdoor activities:
-
“Students no longer have to wear masks when outdoors, even if distance cannot be maintained. Effective May 18, this guidance update applies to recess, physical education, youth sports, and outdoor learning environments. Adults must continue to wear masks outdoors if distancing cannot be maintained. At this time, adults and students must continue to wear masks indoors.” (DESE, Frequently Asked Questions, May 17, 2021)
-
In addition, the DESE is allowing classroom materials/equipment to be shared based on the latest recommendations from the CDC.
Therefore, beginning tomorrow, May 19, 2021, students will not be required to wear masks at outdoor recess, physical education, or outdoor learning environments. However, adults will be required to wear masks outdoors when social distancing cannot be maintained. In addition, masks must be worn by all students and adults when indoors, except when eating lunch socially distanced in the cafeteria.
Thank you for your cooperation on this matter. For more information, please visit the DESE link here. The FAQ document dated May, 17, 2021 is available at the above link.
