The new house system at Phelps Elementary School is a dynamic and engaging approach to fostering community, teamwork, and healthy competition among students.
Starting this year, students are assigned to different "houses," each represented by a unique color, name, and mascot. These houses become the students' teams for various school activities, which could include academic competitions, sports events, and cultural programs.
The system encourages students to work together and support each other, instilling a sense of belonging and school spirit. Points are awarded to houses for achievements and good behavior, culminating in rewards or recognition at two different points in the year.
This structure not only promotes a positive and inclusive school environment but also helps in developing leadership skills, cooperation, and a strong sense of camaraderie among students.
HARMONY HOUSE Dolphins are known for their social behavior and ability to cooperate, symbolizing harmony and teamwork. Green symbolizes growth, harmony, and unity in nature, reflecting the spirit of togetherness and collaboration.
HONOR HOUSE Eagles are symbols of dignity, honor, and majesty, often representing high ideals and respect. Aqua Blue symbolizes honor through its calm yet strong presence, reflecting integrity and trustworthiness.
RADIANCE HOUSE Horses, with their sleek coats gleaming under the sun, embody a natural strength and radiance that captivates and inspires a sense of freedom and beauty. The color orange represents enthusiasm, creativity, warmth, and energy, often evoking feelings of excitement and positivity.
UNITY HOUSE Wolves are known for their strong social bonds and unity within packs, symbolizing collaboration and togetherness. Purple represents unity by blending the warmth of red and the calmness of blue, symbolizing harmony and togetherness.
VALOR HOUSE Lions are often associated with courage, strength, and bravery, making them a fitting representation for valor. Yellow represents positivity, energy, and brightness, akin to the radiance of the sun, bringing warmth and light to the community.
Students were sorted into houses today in grades 2-4. All staff are also members of one of the five houses. Our first graders will become members of houses next week. We look forward to welcoming our youngest students to their new house!
