The majority of a student’s college planning will take place during their Junior year.  Students will meet with their Guidance counselor to create a list of colleges to research and work on various aspects of college planning with Guidance throughout Junior year.

Students should also place to take their first SAT and/or ACT in the Spring of Grade 11 (and plan to take the test (or tests) again in the fall of their senior year.

RHS uses Naviance for college exploration and research.  All students have a Naviance account and have been using Naviance since Grade 9.

Tips for learning about colleges online

Students should begin researching colleges online and then work from their initial list to determine which schools they want to visit.

Campus Visits/College Open Houses

All colleges offer multiple open house dates, which include campus tours, various times throughout the year.  It is CRUCIAL to visit a college - it is the only way to get a feel for the campus and try to determine if this school is a good fit for YOU!    Every college will list their open house/tour dates on their websites, usually under admissions.  If the scheduled dates/times don’t work for you, contact the admissions office to see if an alternate date can be arranged.
