What are the SAT Subject Tests?

The SAT Subject Tests are hour-long exams that ask students to demonstrate a deeper, more detailed knowledge of a specific subject. A complete list of subject tests offered is available on the College Board website

Who requires the SAT Subject Tests?

Some of the more competetive colleges require that students take the SAT Subject Tests in addition to the SAT Reasoning Test or the ACT with writing. Usually, 2 subject tests are required. Some colleges will accept the ACT with writing in lieu of the SAT Subject Tests. It is each student's responsibility to find out if this is true of his or her colleges. All SAT Subject Tests taken appear on a student's College Board transcript, so the decision as to which tests to take, if any, should be made by the student with input from the guidance counselor, teacher and parent.

Subject Test preparation booklets, which give a complete summary of contents of each test and are important to review prior to taking an SAT Subject Test, are available in the Career Center.
