Rockland High School was “Off to See the Wizard,” with its recent production of The Wizard Of Oz  on May 4 and 5.  The show featured classic songs such as “Over the Rainbow,” “Ding Dong, The Witch Is Dead,” “We’re Off to See the Wizard,” “If I Only Had a Brain,” and other timeless hits found in the original  movie.

Emily Gaboriault starred as Dorothy Gale.  Ryan Struzziery was the Scarecrow.  Rebekah Panaro played the Tinman, and Ryan Mott was the Cowardly Lion.  The Wicked Witch of the West was played by Erin Field, while Bonnie Gasdia took on the role of Glinda the Good Witch of the North. Kerin Dalton portrayed the Wizard of Oz.  Key backstage crew included Stephanie Blaney, (choreography), Seth Roczewski (lights),  Max Sheperd (audio), and Madison Parlee, (stage manager). Additional cast members in the ensemble included students from the high school and Rogers Middle School.

This year’s musical marked the first production at RHS for new directors, elementary school music teacher, Michelle Booth, and high school chorus teacher, Victoria McComb.

This production not only included new beginnings, but also heralded the end for several senior cast members, some of whom have participated in every drama production since their freshman year.

Struzziery is one such person who was saddened by the thought of leaving the Theater Guild. “It’s such a good group of people. I love them all, and I’m going to miss them.”
